The Santorini to Mykonos ferry is a seasonal high-speed route between Athinios, Santorini's ferry port, and the new port of Mykonos at Tourlos.

The Santorini to Mykonos ferry is a seasonal high-speed route between Athinios, Santorini's ferry port, and the new port of Mykonos at Tourlos. Crossings from Santorini take 1 hr 50 min to 3 hr 20 min, according to Ferryhopper, and the boats run from spring to late autumn, not in winter. We run a small cave hotel in Fira, about 8 km from Athinios, so this guide covers both directions and the bit the ticket sites leave out: getting between the port and your bed. For everything else about the island, start with our Santorini travel guide.

Times and fares below were checked in October 2026. Ferry prices change with the season and the sailing, so confirm on the booking page before you pay.

Who runs the ferry from Santorini to Mykonos?

Two companies. According to Ferryhopper's route page, Seajets has the fastest boats on the route, at 1 hr 50 min to Mykonos, and Golden Star Ferries runs high-speed ferries that take 3 hr 20 min. Every boat here is a fast boat of some kind. There's no slow overnight option like the one to Crete.

Ferryhopper names the Supercat Jet as the quickest ship, at around 1 hr 50 min, part of the Seajets fleet (source: Ferryhopper Santorini-Mykonos). Going the other way, Golden Star's Golden Princess takes around 2 hr 50 min, per Ferryhopper's Mykonos to Santorini page.

Which one to pick? Seajets if you want the short crossing. Golden Star if you're bringing a car, because Ferryhopper says its ferries have car decks for cars and motorcycles (Mykonos-Santorini data).

How long is the ferry from Santorini to Mykonos?

Between 1 hr 50 min and 3 hr 20 min, depending on the boat and how many islands it stops at on the way, according to Ferryhopper. Plan for the middle of that range. Some sailings stop at other islands on the way, and each stop adds time.

The return crossing is a little longer on the fastest boat. Ferryhopper lists Mykonos to Santorini at 2 hr 10 min to 3 hr 35 min (source: Ferryhopper Mykonos-Santorini).

How much is the Santorini to Mykonos ferry?

From Santorini, tickets start from about €80, according to Ferryhopper's route data. Coming the other way, a single adult ticket from Mykonos starts at about €58, and two adults from €116, per Ferryhopper's fare table. That's the floor. Peak summer sailings on the fastest boats cost more, and the VIP seats more again.

Bringing a vehicle? From Mykonos, car transport starts at €51 and motorcycles at €19, according to Ferryhopper's vehicle prices. Arrive at least 90 min before departure with a vehicle, as Ferryhopper advises.

A few other things worth knowing before you book:

  • There are no cabins on this route. You choose between numbered, airplane-style and VIP seats.
  • Luggage stays with you or in a luggage area on board. Ferryhopper suggests keeping it under 50 kg in total (Santorini-Mykonos tips).
  • Pets travel free if you add them to the booking. Under 10 kg they stay with you in a carrier, per Ferryhopper.

When does the Santorini to Mykonos ferry run?

From about March to November. Ferryhopper describes the route as seasonal and says it usually runs in those months, with up to 4-5 crossings a day (route summary). From Mykonos the busiest days have up to 8 daily crossings, according to Ferryhopper's Mykonos page.

Outside that window you'll be routing through Athens or another island, and the trip becomes a full day. If you're planning a winter visit, check the sailings before you fix the order of your islands.

The Mykonos to Santorini ferry

Coming south, you leave from the New Port at Tourlos, almost 2 km from Mykonos town, says Ferryhopper's Mykonos to Santorini page. The Sea Bus runs to the port every 10-15 min for €2 per person (source: Ferryhopper Mykonos data). Get there at least 45 min before departure in summer, according to the same Ferryhopper page.

You land at Athinios, around 8 km from Fira, and the drive up normally takes around 20 min, per Ferryhopper. The road climbs the cliff in hairpins and queues form when a big boat empties. More on that below.

Doing the islands the other way round, starting in Athens? Our Athens to Santorini ferry guide covers that leg.

Can you do a day trip from Santorini to Mykonos?

Not really. Ferryhopper says Mykonos is not a practical day trip from Santorini: the crossing takes around 2-3 hr each way and same-day returns are limited (Ferryhopper day trip answer). Boats leave Santorini in the morning and the return boats leave Mykonos mid-afternoon, so you'd get a few hours in town and spend the rest of the day at sea.

Stay at least one night. Better still, give Mykonos two or three nights and Santorini the same, so neither feels like a stopover. Booking tips for the ferry

  • Book the leg back early in summer. Ferryhopper warns that tickets on this route sell out quickly.
  • Arrive early at Athinios. It's a small quay under a cliff, and it gets busy in high season.
  • Check the weather the day before. The meltemi wind can delay or cancel high-speed boats in July and August, and Ferryhopper keeps a travel alerts page for disruptions and strikes.
  • Use the e-ticket. You can check in online and board with the ticket on your phone.

Getting between Athinios port and Fira

Every Mykonos boat uses Athinios, the same port as the Athens and Crete ferries. Here are your options up the cliff and back down.

By public bus. KTEL buses run between Fira and Athinios, and the ride takes 20 to 25 min, per Ferryhopper's Athinios notes. The fare from Fira to the port is 2.70 €, according to the KTEL Santorini fare table. Buses are usually timed around ferry arrivals and departures.

By taxi or transfer. Licensed taxis are few, and in summer the queue at Athinios can be long. Book a transfer in advance if you're arriving on a busy afternoon.

For the island's buses, taxis and car rental, see our guide to getting around Santorini. If you're heading to Crete next, the Santorini to Crete ferry leaves from the same port, and so does the Santorini to Naxos ferry.

Where to stay in Santorini before or after Mykonos

Stay in Fira. The port bus starts and ends there, the caldera is at your door, and you can reach Oia, the beaches and the airport by bus. Our where to stay in Santorini guide compares the villages if you're still deciding.

Aroma Suites is our small hotel on Agiou Mina, on the caldera side of Fira. We have doubles, suites and a cave suite with an indoor heated jacuzzi, which is a good place to land after a choppy crossing. Book direct for 4 nights or more and our offers page includes a free one-way airport transfer. That covers the airport, not Athinios, so use the bus or a taxi for the ferry. We're open from March to October, which lines up with the Mykonos ferry season.
